The set has also been known variously as: Congressional serial set, Serial number set, Congressional edition, Congressional set, Congressional series, Congressional series of United States public documents, Congressional document series, Sheep set, Sheep bound set (owing to its distinctive sheepskin binding), and Serial set

Latest issue consulted: Serial no. 14683, published in 2003
Numbering began with 15th Congress, as the publications of the earlier congresses were not assembled in book form

Sets 1 and 2 are numbered on the spine, when received. Care must be taken that they are entered accordingly. (All sets are now being received with the Serial Numbers printed on the spine. Set numbers appear at the lower portion of the spine.) In upper right-hand corner of the verso of the title page indicate serial set number and copy number. House and Senate reports. Distribute Sets 1 and 2 to the Law Library. Set 3 is marked x-copy and sent unlised to CRS-A. House and Senate documents. Distribute Sets 1 and 2 to Law Library. Set 3 is to be duped. After material is fully processed, place Law Library material on Law distribution shelf; CRS-A material in CRS bin. NOTE: IF SERIAL NUMBERS ARE NOT STAMPED ON SPINE WHEN RECEIVED, NOTIFY HEAD OF SECTION BEFORE ACCESSIONING VOLUMES
